Advice from Exploring Outside the 303

If you’ve ever felt stuck in the grind of everyday life and wondered what it would be like to cut ties and hit the road, this episode is for you. Here are three tips from Kaylee and Steve about living the RV life:

1. Research, research, research. Watching videos and talking to other families made Kaylee realize that full-time RV living was a viable option for her family. Take the time to educate yourself and gather information before making any major decisions.

2. Start small. Kaylee and Steve were avid weekend campers, which helped them transition to full-time RV living. If you’re interested in this lifestyle but not ready to commit to selling your house, try renting an RV for a weekend trip to see if it’s a good fit for you.

3. Embrace the journey. Living life on the road means adapting to changing scenery, weather, and circumstances. Kaylee and Steve learned to embrace the unknown, and found that it added excitement and adventure to their lives.

As Kaylee says, “It’s the best decision that we’ve made as a family.” So, whether you’re searching for a change or just curious about RV living, give this episode a listen and start planning your own adventure!

Quotable Moments from Exploring Outside the 303

[00:12:12] we just had to realize this isn’t a vacation. We can make a note of what we haven’t seen, and come back

[00:00:12] It’s just a place. You know, if we don’t like it, we can always buy another house. We can always come back, you know, just all of the feels. And I think we had to we had to feel all of them

[00:02:27] And you said you dropped the idea in 20 18, and it came to fruition in 20 19. How did that process what did that process look like for you guys, the transition phase?

[Unknown] So we started out west. So we went to the balloon fiesta. New Mexico was pretty sweet

[00:03:26] We knew it would sell very quickly, and so we weren’t in a rush to get it on the market

[00:05:34] And so ended up staying in Colorado longer than we had originally wanted to because of COVID and just the uncertainty of where could we go? Who’s open? Who’s not?

[00:07:49] Mine was there there had to be something better

[00:05:56] We strategically went places we knew that were a little less rigid, also places that we knew we outside and just enjoying it

[00:03:49] And then we officially hit the road, like, September first of

[00:09:21] And that’s why I think another reason we came into the our viewing world is, like, we can still go see these cool things at a fraction of the cost

[00:14:32] just seeing all the different types of scenery that this country has to offer, it’s breathtaking and it’s it’s beautiful

[00:10:24] Number 1, our first year was extremely lonely. And so we moved so quick. We moved on average every 4 days. And that’s a lot with schooling and working and everything

[00:06:24] Pretty much yeah. We’ve covered all the West. And Midwest, we’re only missing Minnesota right now

[00:09:13] You get your 1 week a year, which cost an arm and a leg. Because you have to fly somewhere. You gotta have to bail. You have to get caught. Like, just the sheer cost of all of that was, like, it was daunting

[00:01:46] But then kind of like slowly meeting people at full time watching the videos, watching other content creators, it really opened to my eyes that saying people do this and you can thrive while both working, homeschooling, traveling, you can do it, and we’ve been able to do it for the past 3 and years and it’s the best decision that we’ve made as a family

[00:13:24] For us, it was always been for 6 months. Just supposed to be in transition. Yeah. Right. But now we can’t find 1 place to settle down at either

[00:02:12] Yeah. There was, like, other families did it. It wasn’t just retired people — Yeah. — or people with no kids. It’s like, they are in the middle of raising kids and they’re thriving and they’re doing this, and that was the proof that I needed that this could be an option for us

[00:10:01] And then you just do your day to day and then get out and explore that really cool spot. And then you get to say, I lived in that cool spot for that week

[00:07:09] For us being East Coasters — Yeah. — going to the west was stunning and breathtaking, and there’s so much boondocking to do. But you kinda start to miss the green

[00:12:34] The faster you move, the more money it costs. And then you also have that feeling of urgency, constantly, of I need to get all the things done because we’re only here for x amount of days
