One of the QUICKEST and most simple ways to lower your grocery spending? Shop generic brands!
While these brands are lower priced, they are typically the same name brand with a different label. You know how you can get that Louis Vitton Bag for $58934793487.00, but you can get a similar bag for maybe $75… built just as well, has the fancy monogram on it, has the same pocket and zipper placements? Yep, pretty much the same thing just where you’re buying it from is different.
When it comes to food, it’s not that far off. Many brands aren’t even quiet about it. Costco proudly states they have the same brands as big names, just rebranded for Kirkland. More often than not, we actually prefer the store brand products (I’m talking about YOU PC White Cheddar Mac! )
Shop Non-Perishable Generic Brands
If you typically aren’t a generic brand shopper but really need to get your grocery budget in check, start with your pantry products. It’s hard to get those ones wrong.
Switch Household Items to Generic
Then move to your household cleaning products – you can really put that generic brand to the test cleaning a house full of children or pets.
Swap Your Perishables to Generic
Lastly, where you’ll see the biggest change in your budget, switching to generic brand dairy, meats and other perishable products.
If you’re already a generic brand shopper, share what your biggest price switch was?
For us, it was dropping name brand butter and cheese and going to generic.
