When Kim Graham’s, Canadian Caboose, gut tells her to trust her intuition and leave her beloved farm and venture out on the road with her family, she must confront the central conflict of sacrificing stability for experiences.
“I just had to trust my gut. And when we found the house that we moved to, I trusted my gut that that was the right decision and the right location for us. And then trusting the gut for sending Malcolm to a private school, and then trusting my gut for selling everything and moving within two months, which is crazy, but it just felt right.”
Kim Graham, with her husband Jim, are a Canadian couple who have been living in the US for the past 20 years. They recently sold their house amidst COVID and have been traveling the country full-time in their RV for the past two years. They are currently in Orlando, and plan to move to the Carolinas or Tennessee when their kids finish school.
Kim Graham was a compulsive mover who had a hunch that something wasn’t quite right for her family or for her. After selling their house amidst COVID and venturing to Charlotte, North Carolina, she and her husband decided to take the plunge and get an RV and travel the country. With a daughter in college and another in a single-sex boarding school, they decided to live life on the road. They trusted their gut to make all of the right decisions and it paid off, giving them the adventure of a lifetime.
In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. Exploring the Benefits of Single-Sex Education: What is the power of single-sex education and why do many parents opt to send their children to single-sex schools.
2. The Journey of Trusting Your Gut: What are the steps to trusting your intuition and what can it lead to.

More About Canadian Caboose
(From Their Website) In November of 2020, we happily sold everything and moved from our home state of New Hampshire to embark on our full time RV living experience. We had dreamed about living this lifestyle for years but finally took the plunge and we are so happy we did. Now we want to help and encourage others to do the same.
We love teaching and sharing what we have learned over the past year to those who want to start living their dream, be it a few weekends away or to sell it all and jump right in.
If you have ever thought:
- I have to wait until my kids move away
- I have to wait until I retire
- I want to wait until I can buy the perfect RV
then you have come to the right place. We are here to prove you wrong on all three limiting beliefs with RV travel and to inspire you to start your RV adventure now!
So why Canadian Caboose? We are Canadians through and through but we’ve been living in America for 18 years. We love both countries equally and we love catching up with other Canadians on the road. The Caboose is just a little play on words as our home is pulled behind us as we travel.
Hope to see you on the road,
Kim & Jim

Chapter Summaries:
[00:00:00]
Kate: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live debt free, sell it all and live small? Or travel the country full time or raise animals and grow your own food as a sustainable family? These are just some of the stories of those who have jumped outside the box and living life on their terms.
[00:04:27]
Kim would like to settle down somewhere, either in Florida or the Carolinas or Tennessee. I’m waiting for him to settle on going back to New Hampshire. Two and a half, three weeks is how we like to move. We’re just all about experiences, whether they’re big or small.
[00:06:29]
Malcolm went to boarding school because public school was difficult for him. Lauren went to an all girls school because it was a level playing field. One of the things that we realized was the difference in single sex education as opposed to public school. You can tailor what your child needs that’s different.
[00:10:42]
Every four years, Kim and Lauren move. The reason? To travel and to live outside of the norm. When COVID happened, the ease of selling their home was amazing.
[00:18:09]
The family sold their farm and moved within two months. She says she trusted her gut that it was the right move for the family. Sometimes we don’t listen to our gut, she says.
[00:22:17]
“We’re jumping in for a lifetime and we’re going to do RV life forever, ” says owner. Biggest challenge is knowing how to park and making corners in a big rig. Even if you’ve never done it before there shouldn’t be anything that should hold you back from doing it.
[00:25:37]
How has living in 43ft together helped or hindered your marriage? We work the best when we have a project to do together. I think it’s difficult when couples don’t spend time together. But we realized that our relationship is important now when the kids are gone.
[00:27:42]
This journey can be full of highs and lows. What would you say living in this RV life full time has been your highest high and your lowest low? The low for me was the unrealistic expectation of how expensive it is.
[00:29:35]
There really is a struggle to say no and how that emotionally feels when you’re trying to live this full time life by seeing others again. Another low is a community aspect to it. One of the reasons why I like Pickleball is because we’re just getting out and meeting new people.
[00:31:23]
What would you consider is your high or high of this lifestyle? Our family has always been close and so that has continued on even in a smaller space. For me, it’s a vibrance every time I move.
[00:32:53]
Long term we will always RV or camp to some extent. Going forward it will just be Kim and I once the kids leave. We’d like to travel internationally again. Short term goal is to find a place to stay in Florida for remainder of high season.
[00:35:36]
The whole purpose of this podcast is to inspire others to make big changes in their lives. How would you inspire those who are looking at this RV life to get out there and do it? Just know what’s right for your family and trust your gut.
