Soft Pretzels – We All Love Them!
We love soft pretzels when we go out to fairs and theme-parks. But there is nothing like homemade, fresh from the oven, gooey and warm pretzels that you made yourself!
These are so easy to make and you can get the kids involved with the dough. They can help roll and shape and then finish off the baked pretzels with butter and their favorite toppings.
Have fun with these and personalize the recipe with varying the toppings and stuffing and more!

Instructions
Creating Dough
- In a large bowl, place warmed water, sugar and yeast. Using a whisk, mix until yeast is dissolved.
- Mix fine salt and flour together and add three cups of the flour mixture to the yeast mixture. The dough should be soft and not super sticky to your hands, if it is, add more of the flour mixture until it's not sticky.
- Place the dough on a smooth, lightly floured, surface to knead. Start timer for 8 minutes and begin to knead the dough until the timer ends. Dough should be smooth and elastic.
- Rinse your mixing bowl, dry and lightly coat with either butter or an oil of your choice. Place your dough in the bowl and cover. Allow to rise for at least 45 mins (should double in size).
Preparing for Baking
- Preheat the oven to 400*F.
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or place your stone in the oven to warm up.
- In a medium pot, add water and baking soda over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
- Remove your dough from the bowl and punch down to flatten.
- Divide your dough into 12 equal pieces (you can use a scale or eyeball) using a sharp knife or dough scraper.
- Roll each dough piece into a 12 inch rope and twist into pretzel shapes.
- Place, one by one, each pretzel into the slurry for 30 seconds, then place on your baking sheet/stone.
- Bake the pretzels in the oven for 14 mins or until they are a beautiful golden brown.
Decorating Your Pretzels
- Brush your pretzels with butter immediately after removing from the oven.
- Sprinkle with your coarse salt and ENJOY!
Alternate Flavors
- Fill a shallow dish with brown sugar and cinnamon blend and place butter coated pretzels in one by one coating in the mixture
- Before rolling, roll out each section flat and add some shredded sharp cheese. Then roll into itself to make a tube and form pretzel shape. Follow instructions to continue to bake.
- Have fun and try different mixtures of toppings and stuffing!
